History of Eldoria

The story the characters will experience takes place in the year 1317.

Eldoria is one of the continents of Auroria. 

Over the last 1300 years, civilizations has been raised and razed.

It wasn't until about 300 years ago did families begin to cement themselves into positions of power, maintain a hold over land, and build a kingdom proper.

While in that 300 years, many key events took place, we will focus on the last 50 years.

The world at large is mostly at peace. However, in Eldoria rumors began to circulate of a newly discovered mineral. Eienium.
Tensions among families began to rise, as there was a rush to gather as much as they could before the others. Not much was known about this mineral at this time.

The first major conflicts began to break out among families. House Drogon, a leader in mining, and the elusive House Blackwood were the first out of the gate to begin extractions. The first sites of extraction were further away from their capital cities, and began to infringe on others rightfully owned lands. A few smaller settlements were caught up in these early skirmishes. Many of the smallest ones were completely wiped out as soliders guarding the mining operations would quater themselves in the homes of the civilians.

Caelum and Alder have joined the conflicts. War time is officially declared by Drogon and Caelum. Blackwood and Alder start an early alliance, yet was plagued with constant betrayals and friendly fire. Smaller settlements who had not already acted as vassals to the major families were forced into feudality.

The Academy of Arcane Arts, a beacon of knowledge and research of magics, was struck with a massive scandal. Current standing professors and some top of class students were found to have been researching, and spreading disease magics into Blackwood, Caelum, and Drogon territory. Alder had supplied funding and the herbs required to cripple the farming land of other families. The school, as a consequence was forced to shutdown. Graduates and current students were forced into hiding as other families placed bounties upon all of their heads, regardless of affiliation with the Alder Afflict.

The Imperial Military Academy is hit with its own scandal. With the school being located deep within Drogon's Ironhold, students from other families were placed into captivity, with falsified letters being sent to their families as to not raise suspicion, until a note to a member of the Alder family had the family stamp angled slightly off their perfection standards. The Alders looked into the issue, finding Drogon having secretly kept the students locked up from all other families, including many of its own. The incident would be named The Drogon Iron Hold.

The school would undergo a massive overhaul, as professors and faculty threatened to leave if demands were not met. As a result of the recent two scandals, all families agreed to a truce around educational institutions. Dorms would be excluded from the law of the city and instead follow a continent wide law. Students from even opposing families would be allowed passage within the city, however will be forced under curfews and strict supervision.

House Blackwood begins to pull ahead in the fight over territory and collecting Eienium. By this time, the primary use of Eienium has been discovered. The mineral was key in the production of Magitek. Magitek would go on to be incredibly difficult to produce, Drogon would take a lead into production as masters of the forge. Information from family spy networks claimed that Blackwood had been using some type of ancient method of dowsing that would lead them to massive deposits. Many settlements began to shift their attention to Blackwood, and forests across Eldoria become deadly for all not swore to Blackwood.

A new family rises to power, Ember. Ember pools together the resources of all their neighboring families deep in the Saharic desert to form a single new family. Rumors state a massive Eienium deposit is found deep under the sand, leading to all families gazing at the dunes.

A massive natural disaster strikes Eldoria. An earthquake, The Eldoria Shatter, occurs. While all families were struck with destruction, House Caelum suffered severely. Much of their infrastructure was damaged to the point of no repair. Skyhaven had to be completely rebuilt. The family had to halt seeking Eienium and focus on rebuilding. Some say they have began looking into a project to develop a city in the sky. With Caelum knocked out of the war, much of their land outside of Skyhaven was claimed by the other warring families.

The Conservatory of Ancient Wisdom, a collective of elders who seek to preserve knowledge and learn more of the planet, are re-established. A new generation of students and those wanting to escape the wars find refuge within the school walls. The education treaty of the Drogon Iron Hold, extended to the Conservatory.

House Ember and House Drogon declare a truce, wanting to push Alder and Blackwood back. Coming as a surprise and without a proper announcement, Blackwood would be caught off guard and pincered into a retreat.

The conflict continues. territory constantly shifting, many smaller settlements have been completely wiped out. Those who tried to stick it out fell victim to bandits. Rumors spread that House Blackwood has found a new purpose of Eienium. Not much is known yet, but talks of alchemy suggest it was used in apothecary.

The Present

Alder announces Lord Roland Alder will be stepping down from his position as head of the family. His sons fight for the seat. Alder's position in the war is slightly hindered. Their military operations become chaotic and un-predictable, now violating many treaties and agreed upon wartime laws.
